“For the last 6 years I have been covering the Surrey Open Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tournament in Guildford. It’s not only a fun event to photograph but also a very well organised one. The setting at Surrey Sports Park is spacious, parking is plenty and spectators can join in for free. The event runs and finishes on time and attracts equally male and female competitors. Even though it is a truly competitive event, it has a friendly family atmosphere to which it reflects the true spirit of the BJJ community. Don’t miss out and come along for a great experience.” – Dani
“I attended the 2022 Surrey Open with my eldest Son who is 8 and has Cerebral Palsy. The venue was perfect for him, ample disabled parking and lift / ramp access to the competition area. On arrival he was greeted by many of the competitors with a fist bump and smiles. Not long after arriving and starting to watch the fights the organizer and his judging team noticed my son in his wheelchair and allowed him to sit mat side, making his day! He got to meet all the competitors and had loads of photos taken with them, the competition was very well run, with the fighters knowing where they had to be and when, with very little waiting between the bouts. The highlight of the day for my son was meeting the organizer, who took time in what was obviously a very busy day to sit and talk with him about his own training and talking to him about the fights.” – Daz
